This is My beloved Son, hear Him…

By Frank M. Keele

In a previous post we discussed the common theme found in D&C 103:15-20 and Joseph Smith’s statement wherein he said:

“This people will go into the Rocky Mountains; they will there build temples to the Most High. They will raise up a posterity there, and the Latter-day Saints who dwell in these mountains will stand in the flesh until the coming of the Son of Man. The Son of Man will come to them while in the Rocky Mountains.” (Wilford Woodruff, Conference Report, April 1898, p. 57.)

I also stated in that post…

“I’ve often wondered if this appearance would be to the Leadership of the Church only or to the Church as a whole… But Joseph does say “This people will go into the Rocky Mountains… The Son of Man will come to them”. So it appears that He will come to “This people”…

And so, if the Lord, preparatory to “the redemption of Zion” was to appear to the church as a whole, including the first presidency, quorum of the twelve, the seventy and all other general authorities, along with the worldwide membership, what better instrument to accomplish this than a General Conference of the Church?”

So, I suppose that you all know by now what I’m thinking… However, something happened yesterday, that for me at least, takes things to a whole new level. I’m speaking of President Nelson’s latest statement concerning April conference.

The theme of President Nelson’s remarks and the backdrop of the video is clearly the first vision, wherein the Father said to Joseph Smith, “This is My beloved Son, hear Him.” President Nelson said:

“My dear friends, today I wish to share with you a special invitation. There are a few wonderful occasions in the scriptures when our Heavenly Father personally introduced His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, with a specific charge to “Hear Him!”

The thoughts, impressions, and questions that came to my mind as I allowed this message to sink in was… If the Lord does come to April conference… Will the Father introduce Him as He did to Joseph Smith? And if this be the case, will it not be for each of us as if we were with Joseph in the sacred grove? Will we not then have the same witness and testimony that Joseph had? And would this not fortify and strengthen us for what is just ahead? After all, President Nelson did say that this conference is “a hinge point in the history of the church”, didn’t he?
