The gathering and the Bridegroom

Frank M. Keele

In an online forum, I was recently reading about some of the comments and questions members had about the many changes we have seen in the church recently. To summarize, they were asking “what’s going on”? The following was my response…

Anyone who has listened to President Nelson’s worldwide youth devotional is aware that he believes the 12 to 18-year-olds in the church have been given a special mission, he told them:

“the Lord is hastening His work to gather Israel. That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty”…

My dear extraordinary youth, you were sent to earth at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world, to help gather Israel. There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing.

This gathering should mean everything to you. This is the mission for which you were sent to earth.”

Question:

What is it about the gathering of Israel that would make it “the most important thing taking place on earth today”? Why does nothing else compare in magnitude, importance and majesty? Why is this “the most crucial time in the history of the world”? Why is there “nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing”?

Answer:

It’s because nothing else compares to the magnitude, importance, and majesty to the Lord’s Second Coming!!! And there is very little if any separation between the Lord’s coming as the Bridegroom and the gathering of Israel… For example, D&C 133:

25 And the Lord, even the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people, and shall reign over all flesh.

26 And they who are in the north countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.

27 And an highway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep.

28 Their enemies shall become a prey unto them,

29 And in the barren deserts there shall come forth pools of living water; and the parched ground shall no longer be a thirsty land.

30 And they shall bring forth their rich treasures unto the children of Ephraim, my servants.

31 And the boundaries of the everlasting hills shall tremble at their presence.

32 And there shall they fall down and be crowned with glory, even in Zion, by the hands of the servants of the Lord, even the children of Ephraim.

33 And they shall be filled with songs of everlasting joy.

So when “the Lord, even the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people… their prophets (prophets among the ten tribes) shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence”.

Just as you can’t separate the Second Coming and the return of the ten tribes, neither can you separate the mission of our youth to gather Israel from the reality of the Second Coming! The Lord’s coming and the return of the ten tribes set the stage for our youth being able to fulfill their mission! Could it be more obvious?

The truth is, we’ve reached the point where there just isn’t much daylight between us and the Lord’s Second Advent!!
