In this era of the hastening and leading up to the Lord’s Second Coming we are continually reminded of the need to live close to the spirit, so as to be able to navigate through difficult times.
We’ve been blessed with inspired leaders who have been prepared for just such a time as this and we hear a great deal about the need to be unified, discerning, chargeable and loving etc. so as to ready ourselves for the Lord’s coming. However, for the most part, we don’t really know just how close we are to the big event… or do we?
Consider Ezra Taft Benson’s address to BYU students in 1979 and again to a group of seminary and institute student in 1987 where he said, “You are the generation that must be prepared to meet your God.”
Further, consider Thomas S. Monson’s general conference talk of 2011 where he had this to say regarding President Benson’s above-mentioned address: (please view this 90 sec. Video)
Can anyone deny that the generation of the Second Coming must include many who are now in their senior years? What does that say about the closeness of his coming? To pin it down even further, let us consider yet another statement from Ezra Taft Benson:
“if the gentiles on this land reject the word of God and conspire to overthrow liberty and the Constitution, then their doom is fixed, and they “. . . shall be cut off from among my people who are of the covenant”. (1 Nephi 14:6; 3 Nephi 21:11, 14, 21; D&C 84:114-115, 117)
“The great destructive force which was to be turned loose on the earth and which the prophets for centuries have been calling the “abomination of desolation” is vividly described by those who saw it in vision. Ours is the first generation to realize how literally these prophecies can be fulfilled now that God, through science, has unlocked the secret to thermonuclear reaction.” (Oct. general conference, 1961)
How could anyone require more proof that “the gentiles on this land (have) reject(ed) the word of God and (are) conspire(ing) to overthrow liberty and the Constitution” than the cry we hear that we should abandon national sovereignty and the control of our borders. Become a totally socialist state and turn a blind eye to the corruption and the deep state as they do their utmost to nullify a duly elected President of the United States?
If Ezra Taft Benson was correct, It’s easy to see that we are now primed and could reasonably expect to see the “abomination of desolation” which shall be “thermonuclear” in nature, at any time.
Now, as bad as “abomination of desolation” and “thermonuclear reaction” sounds, let us keep in mind that “immediately after the tribulation of those days… shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven… and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory”. Although, I do think we shall be expected to meet one last requirement, for the Lord has said, “Behold, and lo, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.” So we shall be required to make the trek and be in position when the Bridegroom comes.
Another interesting evidence which backs up and is related to what Ezra Taft Benson said above, is found in one of Joseph Smith’s unpublished revelations. We read:
“Verily, I say unto you, that the day of vexation and vengeance is nigh at the doors of this nation, when wicked, ungodly and daring men will rise up in wrath and might, and go forth in anger, like as the dust is driven by a terrible wind; and they will be the means of the destruction of the government and cause the death and misery of many souls; but the faithful among my people shall be preserved in holy places during all these tribulations.”(Letter from W.W. Phelps to Brigham Young, dated August 12, 1861, Joseph Smith Collection, Church Historians Office.)
I am not aware of any other source so specific as to how our government shall be destroyed and by whom… amazing! Do we not presently see the seeds of “wicked, ungodly and daring men… rise(ing) up in wrath and might, and go(ing) forth in anger”? Talk about a sign of the times!
I witness that the world stands at the very precipice of astonishing and incomparable upheaval, revolution and change! When an offended God makes good on his promise to fulfill the words of his prophets, the wicked “shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames”!
He shall speak with “a voice as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder, which shall break down the mountains, and the valleys shall not be found… the great deep… shall be driven back into the north countries, and the islands shall become one land… the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people, and shall reign over all flesh!
It is then that “they who are in the north countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence!
With the coming of the Bridegroom, which is inseparable from the return of the ten tribes and the gathering of scattered Israel, the stage shall be set for many of the very youth President Nelson declared “were sent to earth at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world” to fulfill their assignment as missionaries among the tribes of Israel!
What an amazing day we live in! As President Benson stated and Presiden Monson confirmed, we are “the generation that must be prepared to meet” our “God”!
