Sixth Seal or Seventh Seal? Installment two.

Frank M. Keele

In the previous blog on this topic or “Installment one”, we explained that if the seventh seal opened and the half hour of silence began in 2000, Gog’s army of 200 million should have begun the siege against Jerusalem back in 2017 and that, of course, didn’t happen, right?

In this installment we go to Rev. chapter six and read:

12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

So in order to say that we are in the seventh seal, we obliviously have to be able to account for a rather long succession of events. Some would say that these events could have happened at the very opening of the sixth seal and that we just don’t have a good record of their fulfillment. Let’s test that theory.

In verses 12 and 13 we read that “there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.” However, we find this very same sequence in D&C 88 where we read:

87 For not many days hence and the earth shall tremble and reel to and fro as a drunken man; and the sun shall hide his face, and shall refuse to give light; and the moon shall be bathed in blood; and the stars shall become exceedingly angry, and shall cast themselves down as a fig that falleth from off a fig tree.

D&C 88 was given in 1832 and so the fulfillment of these events would obviously have to occur after that time and before the opening of the seventh seal, right? So here’s some question worth asking…

Who is able to document when “the earth” trembled and reeled “to and fro as a drunken man” and “the sun” hid “his face” and refused “to give light” and “the moon” was “bathed in blood” and “the stars… cast themselves down” since 1832? That’s a pretty notable sequence, just when did that happen?

So, if you come back to me and say something like “well, we had a blood moon on such and such a date”, I’m going to ask you to document the accompanying events like the earth reeling “to and fro as a drunken man” and the sun hiding “his face, and” refusing “to give light” and “the stars” casting “themselves down as a fig that falleth from off a fig tree.” And you know what, you’re not going to have an answer for me, are you?

In reality, blood moons are way too localized and predictable and to date, have never been accompanied by the other associated signs given in scripture. All blood moos to the present date have therefore been “nothing burgers” and we shouldn’t expect that to change.

And what about verse 14? When did “the heaven” depart “as a scroll when it is rolled together”? When was “every mountain and island were moved out of their places”? I’ve been around for over 66 years and I don’t remember any of this happening, my parents and grandparents never said a word to me about any of this happening. Why do you suppose that was?

Who remembers men hiding “themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains” and saying to “the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb”?

I surely don’t remember that either, however, in a coming day, when the events of verses 12-14 actually do unfold, it will be perfectly understandable why some men will react with fear and seek to hide “from the wrath of the Lamb”.

Let’s move on to another passage, shall we? We go to D&C 29 and read:

12 And again, verily, verily, I say unto you, and it hath gone forth in a firm decree, by the will of the Father, that mine apostles, the Twelve which were with me in my ministry at Jerusalem, shall stand at my right hand at the day of my coming in a pillar of fire, being clothed with robes of righteousness, with crowns upon their heads, in glory even as I am, to judge the whole house of Israel, even as many as have loved me and kept my commandments, and none else.

13 For a trump shall sound both long and loud, even as upon Mount Sinai, and all the earth shall quake, and they shall come forth—yea, even the dead which died in me, to receive a crown of righteousness, and to be clothed upon, even as I am, to be with me, that we may be one.

The events spoken of in the above verses are to unfold at “the day of my coming in a pillar of fire” as the Lord says or at the Second Coming, right? In the verses that follow we read of events which will come to pass “before this great day shall come” or in the sixth seal, we read:

14 But, behold, I say unto you that before this great day shall come the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall be turned into blood, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and there shall be greater signs in heaven above and in the earth beneath;

15 And there shall be weeping and wailing among the hosts of men;

16 And there shall be a great hailstorm sent forth to destroy the crops of the earth.

17 And it shall come to pass, because of the wickedness of the world, that I will take vengeance upon the wicked, for they will not repent; for the cup of mine indignation is full; for behold, my blood shall not cleanse them if they hear me not.

18 Wherefore, I the Lord God will send forth flies upon the face of the earth, which shall take hold of the inhabitants thereof, and shall eat their flesh, and shall cause maggots to come in upon them;

19 And their tongues shall be stayed that they shall not utter against me; and their flesh shall fall from off their bones, and their eyes from their sockets;

20 And it shall come to pass that the beasts of the forest and the fowls of the air shall devour them up.

So in addition to the sun being darkened, the moon being turned to blood and the stars falling from heaven, which we have already discussed, we have additional evens which must transpire before “this great day” or the millennial day “shall come”.

We have “a great hailstorm” which shall be ”sent forth to destroy the crops of the earth”. I don’t remember that one, do you?

The Lord says “I will take vengeance upon the wicked… Wherefore, I the Lord God will send forth flies upon the face of the earth, which shall take hold of the inhabitants thereof, and shall eat their flesh, and shall cause maggots to come in upon them; And their tongues shall be stayed that they shall not utter against me; and their flesh shall fall from off their bones, and their eyes from their sockets; And it shall come to pass that the beasts of the forest and the fowls of the air shall devour them up.” Wow, I just don’t remember any of this happening and I’m pretty sure that none of you do either, right?

OK, so from the perspective of the scriptures, anyone claiming that we are already in the seventh seal has, as Ricky Ricardo would say, “a lot of splaining to do”. Now, I can understand why anyone would be anxious or eager to see the Second Coming come to pass, I know I am, but if we ignore the word of the Lord and jump the gun, it will only lead to misunderstanding and confusion.

However, if you think that my insistence that we are still in the sixth seal means that I believe that the Lord’s coming is still distant… nothing could be further from the truth! I’m going to say that we are on the very precipices of the “abomination of desolation” and seeing “the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and… the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory”!
