Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee…

Frank M. Keele

The title of today’s blog comes form the prophet Isaiah. We shall shortly examine this phrase in its complete context. However, before we do that, I want to say that to me it is one of the more surprising and intriguing passages in all of scripture.

We start with a bit of groundwork in order to lay a proper foundation. In some of the previous blogs we have discussed the 17th chapter of Revelation where we get the account of “the beast and the whore”.  We’ve quoted Ezra Taft Benson where he said:

“The great destructive force which was to be turned loose on the earth and which the prophets for centuries have been calling the “abomination of desolation” is vividly described by those who saw it in vision. Ours is the first generation to realize how literally these prophecies can be fulfilled now that God, through science, has unlocked the secret to thermonuclear reaction.” (Oct. general conference, 1961)

We’ve quoted Nephi with his multiple statements about the burning and “fire” to come upon the unrighteous gentiles… However, we have not as yet taken the time to visit some very interesting biblical references related to the “thermonuclear reaction” thing… So lets do that now, we first go to Joel 2: 29-32 and read:

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.
32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.

We take our timing of these events form verse 31 where we have the classic sixth seal event of the “sun” being “turned into darkness, and the moon into blood”, (see Rev. 6:12-13) for this occurs “before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come” but just before!

These events will also lead to our trek eastward, for the Latter Day Saints “shall be delivered… in mount Zion” at the coming of the Bridegroom…

We’ve saved the most intriguing part for last, in verse 30 we read “I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke”…. Hmmm… wonder what this “fire, and pillars of smoke” thing is all about… Doesn’t really take much imagination, does it? But here’s something very intriguing… by the time this same passage gets quoted in the New Testament it has morphed in a most interesting way. From Acts 2 we read:

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

What I find particularly noteworthy is that in this version the “pillars of smoke” has changed to “vapour of smoke”. Where “pillars of smoke” does a pretty good job of describing mushroom shaped clouds, “vapour of smoke” might be considered a good description of the radio active fallout which is associated with this particular kind of mushroom…. Hmmm…. Makes one ponder…

These passages leave little doubt in this bloggers mind as to weather or not these ancient prophets actually saw the unfolding of nuclear warfare in the last days and that leads us to an interesting question… Do any of these biblical prophets advise us as to what to do about it? We begin the wrap up this blog by going to Isaiah 26 where we read:

20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
21 For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

Should it surprise any of us that Isaiah also saw these events and knew what to do in a day when radioactive particles would contaminate the surface of the earth?

In verse 21 Isaiah says “the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain”. Sounds very much like what he says about the “land shadowing with wings” (America) in chapter 18. In another blog we quoted Orson Pratt’s commentary on Isaiah 18 where he said:

“What else is to take place, Isaiah? He says that a severe judgment is to take place on that land shadowing with wings. What kind of a judgment, one that is to be very severe, Isaiah? Yes, for he says—”Afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches. They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains and to the beasts of the earth; and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.” When will this be, Isaiah? After this proclamation, after all the nations of the world have heard it, after the people have heard the sound of the warning message; then the first among all the nations where the extremities of the image have sent forth one of its governments, there will be the commencement of a most terrible judgment, so much so that the people on that land will not have time to bury their dead, and the fowls shall summer upon them.” (Journal of Discourses, 26 vols. [London: Latter-day Saints’ Book Depot, 1854-1886], 18: 183.)

Isaiah’s words, (chapter 18) coupled with Orson Pratt’s commentary, lead us to conclude that these events shall commence in the spring of the year but the Lord does say “whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered”! So let us not fail to do so…

I’m supposing that we’ve all had enough blood, fire and mayhem for one blog and so we’ll bring this one to a close…

  1. Anyone watch or read Nephi’s last day prophecies – Book of Mormon lectures by Hyrum Andrus? I had never heard of this man before last night. I went to bed listening to him and have been listening and studying the scriptures all morning along side his commentary. These are the things he was opening up to us way back in 1989. He knew what was coming and now 29 years later we can look back and see the evidence. How much we need the Book of Mormon for clarification on what is happening in our time and day. Feeling grateful for those men and women (including you Frank) who have spiritual gifts of knowledge and understand the scriptures plainly and have taken the time to share. Thank you.

  2. Couldn’t agree more, those who take the time, who make a serious effort to study the standard works are always rewarded with treasures of hidden knowledge!

I have often born witness that pretty much everything we might want to know about the coming of the Lord is contained in the standard works. We’ve had all of the answers all along, dating back to the days of the restoration. What was lacking in the bible was given us through the prophet Joseph Smith…

  3. When will this be, Isaiah? After this proclamation, after all the nations of the world have heard it, after the people have heard the sound of the warning message;

Can you elaborate on the above statements that you have in the blog? After this proclamation after all the nations of the world have heard it after the people have heard the sound of the warning message. Are they talking about being taught the gospel? What message? What proclamation?
