Who is the “one like unto Moses”?

Frank M. Keele

From D&C section 103 we read:

15 Behold, I say unto you, the redemption of Zion must needs come by power;

16 Therefore, I will raise up unto my people a man, who shall lead them like as Moses led the children of Israel.

17 For ye are the children of Israel, and of the seed of Abraham, and ye must needs be led out of bondage by power, and with a stretched-out arm.

18 And as your fathers were led at the first, even so shall the redemption of Zion be.

19 Therefore, let not your hearts faint, for I say not unto you as I said unto your fathers: Mine angel shall go up before you, but not my presence.

20 But I say unto you: Mine angels shall go up before you, and also my presence, and in time ye shall possess the goodly land.

The Lord declares above that “the redemption of Zion must needs come by power”. And “Therefore, I will raise up unto my people a man, who shall lead them like as Moses led the children of Israel… and… ye shall possess the goodly land”.

And why should we want to “possess the goodly land” or return to Jackson County? Well, for one thing, Ezra Taft Benson said of the Lord’s coming:

“His first appearance will be to the righteous Saints who have gathered to the New Jerusalem. In this place of refuge they will be safe from the wrath of the Lord, which will be poured out without measure on all nations. . . .” (Ezra Taft Benson, New Era, Dec. 1980, pp. 49-50)

It has generally been presumed that the one “like unto Moses” would be a future president of the church… Has that future finally arrived?

If President Nelson was “the one” and knew that he was, what could we expect that he would be doing in preparation?

Would he streamline the organization and function of Mechedeck priesthood?

Would he simplify our worship service and make them more Christ-centered?

Would he make changes to help us focus more on the name of Jesus Christ?

Would he say to the youth of the church “My dear extraordinary youth, you were sent to earth at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world, to help gather Israel. There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing”?

Would he point to the future and say things like “if you think the Chuch has been fully restored, you’re just seeing the beginning, there’s much more to come”?

Would he say “Wait till next year and then the next year, eat your vitamin pills, get your rest, it’s going to be exciting”?

Would he say This is a hinge point in the history of the church. Things are going to move forward at an accelerated pace, of which this is a part”?

Would he say “Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory” ?

Would he say “He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, the likes of which we have never seen” ?

Would he also say ” The church is going to have an unprecedented future, unparalleled; we’re just building up to what’s ahead now”?

Would he say “Now, as President of His Church, I plead with you who have distanced yourselves from the Church and with you who have not yet really sought to know that the Savior’s Church has been restored. Do the spiritual work to find out for yourselves, and please do it now. Time is running out.

You could argue that President Nelson is not “the one”. However, for reasons too numerous to expound upon in this short blog, I personally believe that he is. If you’d like to understand exactly why I’ve come to this conclusion, may I invite you to download my free ebook “The Bridegroom Cometh”.
